General Questions

Why has the TIME Opinion Leaders' Panel been set up?
TIME wants to listen to the opinions of its readers and understand their views on TIME editorial coverage, as well as a wide variety of other key topics. These include subjects as diverse as current affairs, business, technology, finance and luxury goods. Your views go straight to TIME and will be used to improve their offering to you.
What do I have to do to take part?
Simply fill in a short registration questionnaire. You will then be sent e-mails inviting you to take part in questionnaires approximately once a month, however you will not receive more than ten questionnaires in a year. Surveys will take around 10 minutes to complete.

As a TIME Opinion Leader, you will also have the opportunity to comment on the current issue of TIME by logging into the members' website. Your comments will be (anonymously) shared with TIME to let them know what you think of the magazine.
Who runs the TIME Opinion Leaders' Panel?
TIME Opinion Leaders is commissioned by TIME, but run by MindMover Consumer Insight, an independent market research company based in London, U.K. Visit the MindMover website at mindmoverconsumerinsight.com for further information.
How will the information I give you be used?
The comments you share on the questionnaires and through the feedback area will be used for market research purposes only.

The specific information you give us (such as your name and e-mail address) will be held by MindMover and will only be used to send you information to do with TIME Opinion Leaders. Please click here for a more in-depth privacy explanation.
Who will be able to look at my personal information?
MindMover will only use your information for the purposes of marketing research. Anything you tell us will be treated anonymously when passed on to TIME and your responses will never be connected to your name. (For example, results will be presented as "85% of respondents have read a newspaper in the past week.")

The personal information you have provided in the registration questionnaire or any subsequent questionnaires will not be passed on to any third parties. In rare cases we may need to send you information by post that is relevant to the TIME Opinion Leaders' Panel through a mail provider, which will mean supplying them with your name and mailing addresses. In these cases, the mail provider will agree to abide by the Data Protection Act 1998 which means that they will not pass on your details to anyone else and will not use them to sell or market to you.
How safe is my personal information?
MindMover ensures that your personal details are held in a secure database that can only be accessed by those directly involved in managing the TIME Opinion Leaders' Panel. Your personal details on the website are protected by a user name and password so that you are the only person who can access them.
Will I receive sales and marketing information as a result of signing up with the TIME Opinion Leaders' Panel?
No. The information you provide in the registration questionnaire, or any subsequent questionnaires, will not be used by any party to sell or market to you in any way. If you are currently a subscriber to TIME, you will of course continue to receive all the usual mailings and offers.
How can I contact TIME directly? I'd like a response to a question or complaint I have.
As your details are not revealed to TIME, or anyone else, you will not receive a personal response from TIME to any questions or comments you make in questionnaires or on the members' feedback area.

How can I change the details you have about me?
To change any of your details, including your e-mail address simply login as you usually would, then click on 'My details' and alter the relevant information. Your details will be updated once you click 'Next'. You will then receive an e-mail confirming that you have changed your details. Changing your details on the TIME Opinion Leaders' website will not change any details TIME hold on you.
What if I forget my password?
If you have forgotten your password, simply enter your e-mail address in the relevant space in the top of the homepage (please make sure you use the e-mail address you registered with), leaving the "password" space blank. Then click login to send yourself an e-mail reminder of your password.

The reminder e-mail should arrive in your inbox within a few minutes (depending on the speed of your Internet connection.) If the reminder does not arrive, try clicking "Send and Receive" on your e-mail program. If this doesn't work, try sending yourself another reminder, following the steps given in the above paragraph.
How do I access questionnaires?
Surveys will usually be completed online, via the Internet. An e-mail message containing a link to the survey will be delivered to the e-mail address you signed up with. Click on the link and you will be taken directly to the survey. Upon completing the survey, simply click on the "HOME" button to take you back to the homepage!
How do I access the feedback?
To access the feedback area, simply login as you usually would then click on "Feedback". You can comment on this week's issue of TIME as well as previous issues. You can also comment on the TIME website or the TIME Opinion Leaders' Panel itself.
How do I stop receiving e-mails from you/unsubscribe from TIME Opinion Leaders?
If you wish to stop receiving our questionnaires and e-mails, please login to the Opinion Leaders website and click on "unsubscribe". You can unsubscribe at any time and will not receive any further contact from TIME Opinion Leaders if you do so. If you are a subscriber to TIME or receive their newsletter, you will still receive the usual e-mails and mailings.

Technical Questions

Note: Technical questions often require information about the Internet software you are using. To find out, click "help" followed by "about" on your Internet browser. The box that appears will tell you what software you are using.
Why can't I access the latest questionnaire you have sent me?
There are a number of reasons why you may not be able to view one, or even all, of our questionnaires. Some suggestions on how to rectify any problems are listed below:

  • Check the link in the e-mail
    In most cases you can simply correct the link that was sent in the email. Put an equals sign (=) after the words "link" and "user_track_id" in the link.

    For example:
    http://www.timeopinionpanel.com/linkqnnr&user_track_id101

    Would become:
    http://www.timeopinionpanel.com/link=qnnr&user_track_id=101

  • Ensure cookies are enabled
    Make sure that you have cookies enabled in your Internet software, as we use cookies to track the status of our questionnaire. For information on checking and enabling your browser cookie settings, click here.

    If you would like to keep a high-security setting, but still be able to participate in TIME Opinion Leaders' questionnaires, you will need to add www.timeopinionpanel.com to your "Safe" or "Trusted" sites. Please consult your browser documentation for assistance on this.

  • Use of advertising software
    If you have advertising software attached or inserted into your emails, you may experience problems with the surveys. Some of these programs delete certain characters from our emails, and thus disable the links we send to you. Unfortunately there is nothing we can do to control this, but we do advise you to inform your advertising software provider of the problem.

  • Check your Internet Browser
    On some occasions our questionnaires have technical issues with older browsers (Netscape 4.x and Internet Explorer Version 4.x for Windows and Internet Explorer 5.x for Mac OS X). We no longer fully support these browsers (although you may have some limited success with them) and recommend that if you are using them and are experiencing problems that you try using the latest versions (at the time of writing version Netscape 7.1/Firefox 1 and Internet Explorer 6 for Windows, and Safari 1.2/Firefox 1 for Mac OS X).
Why am I unable to login to the TIME Opinion Leaders' website, even when I have carefully copied my e-mail address and password in to the login space?
Firstly, if you have not already done so, check you are using the correct e-mail address. If you have started using a new e-mail address, but have not updated your details, the system will not recognise your new e-mail address.

Secondly, use the password reminder to check you are not using a password you have set up on another website.

If you are copying and pasting your password, check that you are not copying any blank spaces before or after your password, as these are treated as extra characters by the system, thus making your password invalid.

If you are typing your password in, make sure that caps lock is not on - the password is case sensitive.

I have a technical question that is not answered here - what should I do?
Firstly please note down as much information you can about the problem(s) you are experiencing, including any error messages you have seen. Secondly find out what Internet software you are using. Do this by clicking "help" and then "about" - the box that appears will tell you. If you contact us with a technical question (that isn't answered here) it would be greatly appreciated if you can quote the information that appears in this about box.
